I Bike Tuscany

A wonderful excursion into the very heart of Tuscany, the Florentine Chianti.

You'll bike through hills and valleys, past ancient hilltop villages, olive groves, stone farmhouses, lone cypresses and vineyards.

This is quintessential Tuscany in a concentration of nature, art and architecture.

Advanced skill level: Suitable for those who bike regularly and are comfortable cycling a hilly terrain with some longer and more challenging climbs.

Highlights: Greve, Vignamaggio estate (Mona Lisa birthplace), Lamole, Volpaia, Panzano.

OVERVIEW

ITINERARY

From your hotel (or nearby) you'll be shuttled to the village of Greve in Chianti where your tour will begin. In just one mile you'll be in the open countryside where, on a scenic totally quiet backroad, you'll start climbing to a hilltop with a spectacular view over the Chianti valley. On the way, take a relaxing stop at Vignamaggio, the historic villa once owned by the Gherardini family and Mona Lisa birth place. Leonardo grew up just a few miles from here. You will then continue on an easy dirt road that will take you to Volpaia, a wonderful little medieval hamlet in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Take your time for a stroll and for lunch on your own at our favorite trattoria in the piazza. Afterwards a winding and breathtaking downhill will take you to the outskirts of Radda before heading back to Greve through the village of Panzano, where a stop at Dario Cecchini, world's most famous butcher, is mandatory (if you are not a vegetarian of course!). After that, a long and well deserved panoramic downhill will take us back to Greve.
